WDV Athletics Monthly Update – May

Closing Out the Season: Spring Sports in Review

As the Wiseburn Da Vinci 2024-25 spring sports season comes to a close, we want to take a moment to recognize and celebrate the outstanding efforts of our student-athletes. This season has been one to remember — many of our teams advanced to postseason play, a testament to the hard work, dedication, and growth displayed throughout the year.

While we may not have gone as far in all the playoffs as we had hoped, the progress and perseverance shown by our athletes have been nothing short of inspiring. Each game, match, and meet reflected the heart and commitment that define Wolf pride.

To our graduating senior athletes: thank you. Thank you for your leadership, passion, and for allowing us to be a part of your high school journey. Your legacy will leave a lasting impact, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for each of you.

eSports

Team Update: We’re thrilled to share that 15 members of the WDV Esports Team—joined by a 42-person strong support crew of families—traveled to San Antonio, Texas in May to compete in the EGFH National Championships. This was the largest attended eSports event in our Wiseburn Da Vinci history.

Check out the Esports Texas 2025 Highlights edited by Esports Freshman Koda Gudiel.

Beyond the competition, the team and their families soaked up the San Antonio experience—visiting the Alamo, tasting real Texas BBQ, and honoring their moms on Mother’s Day with a rose and a limited-edition team card.

Thank you for cheering them on—this trip was an unforgettable milestone for our students and program. Thank you to everyone who supported them through the bake sales. The players and the bake sales will return in August to prepare for an even bigger showing next year!

Bay League Finals took place on May 2, the same night as prom, but that didn’t stop senior Olivia Griffin from making history. Olivia captured double gold, earning the title of Bay League Champion in both the 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles.

Her postseason success continued at the CIF Southern Section Division 2 Championships on May 17, where she was crowned CIF Champion once again. Olivia went on to compete at the prestigious CIF Masters Meet on May 24 delivering another stand out performance and qualifying for the State Championships in Clovis, held on May 31!

Olivia put on a stellar performance at the CIF STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS:

    • 5th fastest in the nation in the 300m hurdles
    • 5th fastest in California in the 100m hurdles
    • 4th fastest in California in the 300m hurdles

We’re incredibly proud of Olivia and the entire Track & Field team for their determination, grit, and outstanding accomplishments this season!

Boys Volleyball

Team Update: The Boys Varsity and JV Volleyball teams had a solid season in a competitive Pioneer league.  The JV team continued to show growth during the course of the season.  They earned a hard fought second place in the Sylmar tournament, losing a tight match against Venice.  During that same week, the JV team rallied to beat Venice in a home match.  This season was led by captains, setter Michael Galup,  libero Kian Trujillo and hitter Cohen McGraw and freshman Quinn Weatherford.  Overall, the entire JV team contributed to a phenomenal season that saw tremendous improvement from every player.

Despite injuries hampering the Varsity players throughout the season, they battled together and earned a bid to move forward in the CIF-SS playoffs.  In the first round of the CIF-SS Division 5 playoffs, the Wolves hosted Bishop Diego High School, a team that they had defeated earlier in their Senior Night game, a nail biting 5 set match.  The Wolves handed the Cardinals another loss in a 3-1 set victory.

  • Stand Out Performances (Bishop Diego):
    • Andre Pimienta, Jr. led the team with 24 kills and 2 aces.
    • Sai Santiago contributed 16 kills and 22 digs.
    • Dylan Soriano and Malakai Tuakoi were a key part of the offense.

In the second round of playoffs, the Wolves traveled to Rancho Verde High in Moreno Valley to battle the Mustangs, defeating them in three sets.

  • Stand Out Performances (Rancho Verde):
    • Andre Pimienta, Jr. led with 31 kills and 4 aces while teammate Sai Santiago added 12 kills to the attack line and defensively 18 digs.
    • Malakai Tuakoi and Dylan Soriano shared setting duties, with Malakai guiding the hitters with 25 assists and Dylan with 14 assists.

In the Quarterfinal Round against Esparanza, the Wolves came up a little short and lost.

Three of our Wolves earned All Pioneer League honors. Andre Pimienta, Jr. – 1st Team, Sai Santiago and Dylan Soriano – 2nd Team.   Matt Divinagracia was the WDV CIF-SS Male Athlete of the Year, an honor based on both academic and athletic achievements. We are extremely proud of our team’s ability to pivot during the season,  accepting position changes as needed for the good of the team.  This was an exceptional group of young men that competed in many tournaments and games against highly ranked teams and discovered that they matched each team’s high level of play.  We wish our seniors Andre Pimienta, Jr. and Matt Divinagracia the best of luck as they move on to their next chapter of life.

Baseball

Team Update: WDV Baseball wrapped up a strong season with an impressive 18-11 record, finishing third in the Pioneer League. Along the way, the team notched key wins over tough opponents, including El Segundo, Peninsula, Glenn, and North, showcasing their growth and grit throughout the year.

This group of young men is building a legacy brick by brick, grounded in hard work, determination, and teamwork. WDV Baseball remains committed to fostering athletic excellence, academic achievement, and personal growth—and these student-athletes represent the very best of what high school sports can offer. We look forward to their continued success both on and off the field!

Congratulations Varsity Head Coach Zeek Barba on achieving 100 career wins!

  • Standout Players in the 2024-25 Season:
    • Peyton Tate – CIF Southern Section Second Team All League
      • A cornerstone of the WDV baseball program, senior Peyton Tate concludes his high school career as a four-year varsity starter and the school’s all-time leader in both hits and stolen bases. Widely respected by teammates, coaches, and peers, Peyton’s leadership and commitment have made a lasting impact on the program. His work ethic and sportsmanship make him a role model for younger athletes and a true ambassador for WDV athletics.
    • Jered Fan
      • Senior pitcher Jered Fan is recognized not only for his performance on the mound over the past two varsity seasons but also for his selfless attitude and unwavering team-first mentality. Jered is known throughout the school community for his positive presence and dedication to service. He devotes many hours to helping the less fortunate and supporting local community initiatives, embodying the spirit of giving back.
    • Lonnie Jackson
      • Sophomore third baseman Lonnie Jackson continues to rise as one of WDV’s most promising talents. Already second on the school’s all-time home run list, Lonnie has established himself as a powerful offensive force. Off the field, his friendly nature and willingness to assist others have earned him admiration among teammates and students alike. He represents the future of the program with humility and heart.
    • Tristan Martinez
      • Freshman Tristan Martinez has had a breakout season, making a rapid ascent through the WDV program. He began the year on the Freshman/Sophomore team, advanced to the 21-6 Junior Varsity squad, and ultimately earned a roster spot on the varsity playoff team. Tristan started in key postseason games, including matchups against El Segundo and South Torrance. His growth, talent, and positive attitude

Swim
